Migration and its accompanying stressors affect migrating individuals and their families. The process of migration is not simple or straightforward. It is important to consider how migration influences individuals’ mental state and how it determines help-seeking, as well as pathways to settlement. The types of migration, reasons for it and whether the individual migrates alone or with others affect them as a person, the families and their communities. It is essential to study its impact on communities as well as individuals.
Documentaries, like the SEEDS example, help continue to build awareness of how independently-produced storytelling can comment on and contribute to the most important historical, artistic, social and scientific conversations of our time. On the whole, these films challenge us to see the environment as something beyond ourselves, as something that's worthy of explanation, but also of immense admiration. Each of these examples become tools that enrich our appreciation of the diversity of our world and the people who inhabit it. |
